I thought the chips and salsa were fine. Bean dip was good. Hubby said the fajitas were amazing! The beer was two for the price of one and only $5. I got the Mai tai and it was $10.99. A little to expensive for me. But it was really big. Next time I'll try the margarita. I'd seen after that they did a two for one on those. I got the chicken chimichanga meal. It was good and so big we took most of it home. So we got two meals out of one. Next time I'll ask if they could leave the beans out of the chimichanga and it would be perfect. The staff was great and super nice.

OUTSIDE: It is located in a small complex beside Walmart. So that means a lot of traffic coming in and out. It seems a little cluttered, but not to the point that it's crazy. They do have outside seating depending on the weather. There are 2 tables I believe, out in the breeze way. INSIDE: Not a lot of light coming through, lights are somewhat dim, but you can still manage to see your food. It's a clean environment, and not too tight with the tables and chairs. About 3 TVs around showing sports. Always a plus to have TVs. They have a bar located towards the back. Although I've never sat there, from afar, it seems nice. Not sure how I'd judge that section, to be honest. Bathrooms I've visited once on a previous visit. It was clean from what I remember. SERVICE: We've never had any issues with the service here. And of course, I don't look for it. But everyone of our servers from the past to now, have always carried a smile, and have always been swift in bringing out our orders. The most recent, we had Cesar. Great guy who was always smiling and checking on us. Perfect timing on refills. Very helpful. Respectful. Management, he deserves recognition! FOOD: They have the freshest Mexican food around town! It came out faster than expected, and on point. No mistake, well-presented. They always have complimentary chips they bring out to your table with salsa AND bean dip. Refillable. You can't beat that! I had the Carnitas Fajitas. So tasty! The pork was tender, juicy, and flavorful. The rice was tender, and cooked to perfection, the pico was definitely fresh. The fajitas were NOT microwaved like most Mexican restaurants. My wife had the beef chimichanga. The queso that was poured over it was probably one of the top 3 (easy!) queso sauces I've ever tasted. We definitely will be regulars. I may even strive to be Duke for this place! New fans here!

As far as Mexican food goes, I have had a heck of a lot better. They serve incredibly, barely, "standard" Mexican food. It's that Mexican food that you can get anywhere across the country that is just not very good, but not horrible, but not good. Just, ya know, there. I decided to "treat" myself to some guacamole to start. I say, "treat" because I almost never get an appetizer when I am dining alone. But hey, I am on vacation. Let's live big and have some guacamole! Mistake. What arrived was that watery, lime green-ish color - that does not occur in nature other than perhaps a new born's diaper - not really guacamole, guacamole. To me, guac is a fairly simple affair. Mush some avocado, throw in some seasoning and viola - you are the hit of the party. This did not resemble that. I don't know what was in there, but what was slopped on a plate and some tomato and onion thrown on the side was neither what I was expecting or hoping for. Now, being a compulsive eater, I ate it, but I digress. I wish restaurants who served this guacamole would not call it guacamole but call it "Essence of Guacamole" or "Guacamole! An Incredible Simulation!" Shortly after the appetizer arrived, my diet coke finally appeared. The diet coke that I had to ask twice for. For my entree - chicken enchiladas mole. Again, just so-so. The mole was reasonably tasty, albeit rather gelatinous. The rice and beans - ya know, that rice and beans that you can get at any barely, "standard" Mexican restaurant from here to Zanzabar. I am quite confident it all came out of a can. Probably a large can, with the word "Cisco" written on it, and their catch phrase - "We Supply Barely Standard Mexican Restaurants". Sour cream fixes most things in my case. So, I asked for some sour cream. And the waiter disappeared. And she walked by five minutes later and dealt with a table that was leaving because their food was so bad. Then she walked by again. And later, again. No sour cream. Eventually the manager walked by, after profusely apologizing to the table that was leaving, assuring them that they, "were the first one's to have this problem today". I am sure that made them feel great. "Well, we are the first...hmm...maybe we should stay?" So, he walked by, and I asked him and I finally got the sour cream. I ate. I read my book. I asked for my check and again waited forever. Now, I should say, to my server's defense that there was, maybe, two or three other tables in there along with a manager and two or three other servers - so the heat was ON. I left a $0.75 tip. Which was generous. She would have gotten a full 15-20% tip if she had just once, once, acknowledged that the service sucked. Make something up for god sakes - "The diet coke was out....the cow was out and that's why the sour cream took so long" - ANYTHING. Or, just say, "I'm sorry" and my wallet is virtually yours if you mean it. The last laugh, however, is on Toro Bravo. I have to wrap this up as the bathroom is aggressively calling. Very aggressively. Bon Appetit!

Simple Mexican food, great service, ok food, probably fun for drinks. Lightly salted tortilla chips were not too oily and came with delicious black bean dip. The salsa was very salty and barely edible. Two entrees for the three of us were plenty of food, our glasses of soda and water were always refilled without delay. The entree of the veggie burrito was excellent with fluffy rice with cheese, and well stuffed filling spinach burrito however the spinach quesdilla had enough salt to salinate a 500 gallon aquarium and was only marginally edible.

This is one of the real pleasures of living in Gulf Breeze, Quick access to the Bravo! We had lunch there the other day and the bill for four adults was $31 and everyone left food on their plates. We had various combinations of the Ameri-Mex standards: tacos (hard and soft), tamales, enchiladas, beans and rice and all of it was fresh and plentiful. They also serve the prerequisite (maybe its a law) chips and salsa as well as a black bean dip. Very tasty and a nice compliment to the salsa. The guacamole had an exceptionally fresh cilantro taste, although I prefer mine chunkier with more tomatoes and onions, still very good. I would also recommend getting outside your comfort zone and going with the fish dishes and carne asada, especially for dinner. I have never been disappointed. Servers are friendly and efficient and provide a good opportunity to dust off some of the old high school Spanish and give it a try. The only down side to this place is that it has been remodeled several times and each time they add more tables on stone floors plus they've added a music system that plays nonstop fiesta music so carrying on a conversation can be a pain. Otherwise, Bravo Zulu to Rio Bravo!

This place is such a hole in the wall! I've been to the Gulf Breeze walmart and that little plaza all the time, and never looked twice at this place until some friends took us. This place is awesome! One of my favorite places to eat out. We went on Tuesday for their 99 cent Margarita night (awesome!) and this place was jammed packed I thought is was because of the special.. But later I found that it's like almost every night. The salsa is BOMB! and I could eat just that! But Unfortunately their food is great too, so bring an extra stomach! And not too mention the service is friendly and fast! Check it out!! Oh, on Mondays is 99 cent draft beer (awesome!)

LOVE Rio Bravo - both locations. Always have great & fast service and food is always correct and comes out hot. They have good drink specials and the servers are always polite. Best Mexican restaurant in the area by far.

Delicious authentic Mexican at great prices. Get the chicken fajitas on Thursday night for only $6.99 or margaritas on Tuesday nights for only 99 cents. People are friendly and service has been quick and efficient. Great restaurant!

Steak fajitas were way over cooked, basically very burnt. Not very good, Disappointed. Although the free bean dip was good. That's about it.

  • Rebecca M.

pluses: chips are warm; salsa is okay....maybe canned?I did like the black beans with the salsa. if you have to eat here, you may want to stick with the fajitas. (note to self). If you like quantity over just about everything else, than this is your go-to place! minuses: we went Sunday after church... okay so it was crunch time. or just in the aftermath of it. it was crowded and our service was really, really slow. when the order came, it was really, really, wrong. and there was no effort to make sure that it was made right. :-( and then you lost me!

This is by far one of the best Mexican restaurants I've eaten at. All of the food is seasoned well and the portions are great! I really enjoy the grilled steak in most everything! The service is awesome as well. Highly recommend!

Not impressed. I ordered a "Salad Steak Fajita". I was initially disappointed in the small size of the salad, but after my first bite, I knew I was in trouble. All I got on my fork were grilled onions. I then removed at least (no kidding) ONE CUP of grilled onions from the salad. Remaining was about 1/2 cup of lettuce and 5 small pieces of beef. It s the first time I've returned food in about 10 years. The rest of my family was not impressed with the quality of their food, either. Onions dominated two of the other meals. Service was above average. Maybe it's just because I'm from Texas, and am not accustomed to onion dominated "Mexican" food?

Went at 7 pm. Ordered tacos Al Carbon. Tacos had gusiado beef, was not charcoal grilled. No poco served with it. Charro soup had sliced hot dogs or viena sausage in it with some chorizo and few beans with excess grease. Wife ordered tamales. Made with ground substance that may have been pork. Asked specifically if tale was made with pulled pork and was told "so". Everything was over salted. Salsa was ok. Restaurant reeked of disinfectant and floors were sticky. Find somewhere else if you are looking for Telmex or Mexican. This place is Lower Alabama mex.

Music too loud. When I asked for the music to be turned down, I was told it could be turned down but not off and the volume was still so loud that we couldn't talk to eachother. Service fair, not very attentive or friendly. Food fantastic and priced well.

Terrific lunch spot, BOGO margaritas and yummy salsa. The staff is friendly & the food arrived quickly. There are some vegetarian options, the veggie lunch was delicious!

Excellent service (Carmen), great tasting salsa. Food was good, a bit above average but nothing to write home about. Menu items were priced well. We would come back here definitely, but there are other Mexican food places around that would be our first stop.

Went there on Sunday, it was pathetic! Service was inexcusable, took our order and didn't see him again for 15 minutes! I ordered 1 taco, 1 enchilada with beans, simple huh? I tried it all, much too my dismay! I ate about 6 teaspoons of the beans, he came back eventually and asked how everything was, I let him know I was very disappointed and he walked away then brought our ticket right away. I looked at the ticket and I said are you really going to charge me for a meal that couldn't eat? He said you will pay full price because it's not his fault that it wasn't good, it was the cooks problem. I told him that I felt that it wasn't fair! He said if I didn't pay for it he would call the police! My husband said fine we will pa full price and that we would never come back, he said it's okay we don't need your business. ..too funny there were only 4 people total there including us! It was all I could do to not yell at him! Oh yeah, my husband asked for mixed fajitas and he told him when he ordered that was not allowed even when he offered to pay more! If there was a NO STAR they'd certainly get it from me! I know that this lengthy but I just don't want anyone to go there

Excellent mole enchiladas. Bean dip with chips was a nice surprise. 99 cent margaritas on Tuesday also nice. I recommend this place. Nice stop on trip from destin to new Orleans. Ingredients were fresh, courteous service, hot food. Process were very reasonable.

Eh. Not impresses. From the stale chips to cold appetizer, then missing ingredients on the main dish. Average service at best. Probably not coming back. But what do you expect from a Mexican restaurant in a walmart strip mall.

I judge most Mexican places by the quality of their salsa, it's usually a good indicator of how much they value fresh ingredients. Tried the chicken chilaquiles, which was a different recipe to what I have had in the past, and resembled nachos more than the stewed in the sauce form I've seen most frequently. My husband had the crane de res burrito and really enjoyed it. Still a pretty respectable Mexican place for the area.

This is a Mexican Restaurant that seems to have lived trough three different names, from Tex-Mex Rio Bravo, Rio Bravo, Mex-Mex Mexican Restaurant and now Toro Bravo, pleassssseeee! The food, it's not bad,, it's the ubiquitous Mexican food. oohing daring, nothing new. The food's not bad, but nothing note worthy either! I ordered a Chicken Burrito, it was good and for lunch, it was filling ti, but it was like every other burrito I've ever had. The service was also go, but far from great, as our waiter got lost after delivering us the check. The ambiance, eeeehhhh, it's cheap Mexican, and that's it!

I love this place! The food is always good as is the salsa. We went last night and it was the best that we've had since we started going! Best Mexican restaurant in Gulf Breeze!

3.5 stars seems more appropriate. Been around Gulf Breeze for close to a year, best "Mexican" we have had in the area. Service left a little to be desired, but we were seated quick, and didn't wait long at all for our feast after ordering. Complimentary chips, salsas and bean dip were all fresh, and tasty. Enchiladas smothered in mole... meh. Meat in the enchiladas was moist, and delicious. Mole tasted burnt. Grilled skillet platter came with three choices of meat. Steak, Chicken and Sausage over sauteed peppers and onions. Steak / Chicken were cooked perfect. Flavorful, moist, satisfied my inner fat kid. The sausage tasted like per packed Oscar Mayer Kielbasa. Tamale was good, but was smothered in a chili sauce that tasted.... off. Was our first try, we will be back, very satisfied, want to explore the menu more.

Top 5 fajitas I have ever had and I am a Texan. Very surprising from a strip mall Mexican joint. Service was disappointing but I can live with that for delicious fajitas.

Spicy salsa is great. Steak fajita was excellent. Service was ok, but they did get slammed shortly after we arrived. My family raved about the black bean dip as well.

Bar none, Toro Bravo is the best sit-down, full service Mexican restaurant in the Pcola area. You'll find dishes that aren't on the boiler-plate, generic Americanized Mexican places around the area. The common dishes that you will find on the menus of other local Mexican food joints are superior at Toro Bravo. We each had the $8.29 plate of three enchiladas, topped with a ladle of their white queso dip, with lettuce, tomatoes, guacamole, and sour cream on top and on the plate. I wish that I had nixed the lettuce, because warmed up lettuce makes me want to hurl. Besides that glarg factor, the enchiladas were filled with nicely spicy ground beef..."filled up" would be a more apt description, because there was at least 50% more meat than most places serve and maybe 100% more than the really cheap Mexican restaurants put in their enchiladas. Let me put it this way: I couldn't finish the last half of my last enchilada. That's probably due to all of the nom noming that I did on the chips and salsa before the food arrived. The complimentary chips are a very large basket of freshly-fried chips and they seem thicker and crispier than the norm around here. The salsa is THE best. It's not watery at all and is infused with flavor and fresh ingredients. You also get a bowl of black bean dip, which is pretty damned tasty on its own. I combined the two and got the best of both worlds. I tasted my lady's margarita and it was spiked with a goodly amount of tequila. I asked for a large draft and had to exercise my bicep just drinking the mug...it was frackin' huge. I wasn't thrilled with being seated at a table in the middle of the too-bright room, but we were hungry and the place was crowded. Hey, Toro, dim those searchlights! I've been before and will go again, whenever I get down in that area.

I had a great experience here. At first, there was nobody to serve us for a few minutes, but a waiter saw us waiting and promptly took our order. Incredibly, 2 minutes later our food was out and looked outstanding. The salsa and bean dip were quite good. Fajitas were sizzling hot and had plenty of meat. I saw where a few months back they had a bad inspection, but in Dec 2013 they had a reinspection with no violations. Waiter was very courteous and they offer a military discount. I'll definitely be going back.

Service was the only disappointment. It was not busy, yet we waited over ten minutes just to get the check after asking for it (after waiting at least ten minutes after we finished eating for the waiter to return). The bean dip appetizer is awesome. The pork burrito is outstanding. The rice is yummy. I had tacos with chicken and they were also amazing. Very impressed. Hopefully I can try the Margaritas sometime ;)

Mixed bag here. I had the El Bravo - a very (very) spicy fajita dish that I thought was pretty tasty. My wife and kids got tacos, quesadillas and other items off the "traditional" menu and absolutely hated their meals. The soft drinks were overpriced. The service was mediocre at best. I would give it at least a 3, but the rest of my family would think a 1 overly generous. Hence, the 2.

  • Lake V.

They get five stars because they are the best Mexican food you will find around the Navarre area. I love the El Bravo usually with chicken extra spicy and corn tortillas. They get busy and the service drops a bit but still worth it. You can also sit outside with your pup. If I was in a place with better choices like SoCal they would still get four stars

  • Jamie N.

I usually like this place but it keeps getting worse. Ordered fajitas and they were so oily and salty it wasn't even good. I never really liked much else on the menu. The service is always crappy. Not sure I'll be back.

  • Garvin F.

While this place has a very unassuming location, this is a great find. We tried a variety of items on the menu and went back for a second time. The menu is great and has a wide variety of food. The kids menu is priced well. But the highlight of this place is the quality and taste of the food. Wonderful restaurant with great food at good prices. We found one of our favorites in the area and wish we could get this back in Texas.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
